WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES

  • Promote digital professional mobility and tourism in Malaysia
  • Offer a thriving environment for for digital nomads (creation of DE Rantau hubs)
  • Create community / network / ecosystem between nomads and local workers
  • Offer DE Rantau Nomad Pass for qualified foreign digital nomads
  • Allowing digital nomads to live in the country for up to a year
  • Attract IT professionals, digital marketers, and remotely workers to move to the country
  • It is intended to benefit both local talents and foreign nomads via the creation of a vibrant ecosystem

 

MFCCI ROLES

  • MFCCI acts as a Sponsoring Organization for the MDEC group 
  • MFCCI is the actor which deliver the Nomad Pass
  • MFCCI takes care of the stay, maintenance and repatriation of the sponsored individual

 

NOMAD PASS ELIGIBILITY 

 

Criteria

Foreign Digital Nomad

Type of Digital Nomad  

Digital freelancer, independent contractor          

Remote worker i.e. employee of a company but not required to physically be in the office

Domain of Profession   

IT (all types - software dev, UX, UI, cloud, cybersecurity, blockchain, AI, machine learning, data-related etc.), digital marketing, digital creative content, digital content development (All digital domain related work)

 

Proof of Work

Active project contract.

Active employment contract.

Contract duration > 3 months, can be multiple contracts.

Contract duration > 3 months.

Clientele is foreign/ Malaysian based companies.           

Employer is foreign/ non-Malaysian based companies.

Annual Income

> USD24,000 per year

 

NOMAD PASS APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Nomad Pass application must be made online (https://malaysiadigital.mdec.my/?_ts=1667562916811)
  • The application will be processed within 4 weeks upon receipt of the completed submission. The issuance of pass will be completed within 1 week

 

NOMAD PASS BENEFITS 

  • Access to exclusive benefits provided for digital nomads such as nomad-ready living and working hubs, handpicked local services, discount vouchers, latest information, and promotions.
  • ​​The DE Rantau Nomad Pass introduced will allow foreign digital nomads to stay in Malaysia for a minimum period 3 months to a maximum of 12 months (with the option to renew for additional 12 months, allowing total of 24 months of stay)
  • Access exclusive perks and benefits (nomad-ready living and working hubs, curated local services, discount vouchers, and other promotions. )

 

DOCUMENTS NEEDED

a. Mandatory documents: Digital Freelancer / Independant Contractor

  • Passport all pages (must have a minimum of 6 empty pages and at least 14 months remaining validity)
  • Latest CV
  • Latest 3 months bank statement
  • Latest 3 months income statement or latest tax returns​
  • A valid project contract with a contract period of 3 months or more (combination of contracts from multiple companies will also be accepted)
  • Personal bond (to fill out the prescribed form)
  • Letter of good conduct (issued by authority body in respective country or current residence)
  • Highest education certificate
  • Medical insurance enrolment certificate which is valid in Malaysia (must also cover dependent, if any)
  • Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia tax registration slip

b. Mandatory documents: Remote Worker 

  • Passport all pages (must have a minimum of 6 empty pages and at least 14 months remaining validity)
  • Latest CV
  • Latest 3 months bank statement
  • Latest 3 months income statement or latest tax returns
  • Latest 3 months payslip
  • A valid employment contract with a contract period of 3 months or more
  • Letter of good conduct (issued by authority body in respective country or current residence)
  • Personal bond (to fill out the prescribed form)
  • Highest education certificate
  • Medical insurance enrolment certificate which is valid in Malaysia (must also cover dependent, if any)
  • Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia tax registration slip

 

HOW MUCH DOES A MALAYSIA DIGITAL NOMAD VISA COST ?

  • 1000RM and an additional fee of RM 500 for every dependent you bring along with you on this pass. Furthermore, if your application is rejected, then 75 percent of the visa fee is refunded.

A : The DE Rantau Nomad Pass is not transferable to another person

 

Q : What is the average cost of living in Malaysia for digital nomads?

A : The cost of living in Malaysia is generally quite affordable, particularly in comparison to other Southeast Asian countries. The average cost of living for a digital nomad in Kuala Lumpur is estimated to be around $1000 to $1500 USD per month, including accommodation, food, and transportation.

 

Q : Who is a digital nomad?

A : A Digital Nomad performs work remotely on a freelance basis with no attachment to specific company or location, and lives a nomadic lifestyle by travelling from one country to another to gain job opportunity, exposure, contents and experience.

 

Q : Can I bring my family?

A : Only immediate family members of the main pass holder are eligible to apply:

  1. Husband / Wife/ Common-Law partner
  2. Child, adopted child or stepchild under the age of 18 years
  3. Disabled child (no age limit) verified by experts

 

Q : Is this open to all nationalities?

A : The pass is open for application for citizens of all nationalities. However, approval from Ministry of Home Affairs, Malaysia is required for Israel citizen to enter Malaysia.

 

Q : Can my child attend school in Malaysia while holding the DE Rantau Nomad dependant pass?

A : School requirements vary. Please check directly with the relevant schools for further clarifications.
